MOCCA 2012

MOCCA is here already and me, Alexander, Peter, Miriam and Blujay will be tabling at it!

We’re going to be at table I-11:

FAT MEN

A few months ago, I was thinking about who knows what and suddenly a string of fat men marched into my head — playing their beer bellies like drums. That’s the story behind this series, even if it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Thongs!

We finally meet the Centaur King, and how awesome is he?...

We finally meet the Centaur King, and how awesome is he? I’m sure anyone who loves horses that much is totally trustworthy.
Also, looking at the last strip, his level of physical fitness may have been slightly exaggerated.
The Coast always provides their own strip by strip subtitles, which I don’t see until the paper comes out. I feel like they won this week’s strip-title war with Sugar Sugar.

EAT

Some sketches of crow-things with a little color thrown in.

It’s come to this.

A picture of a thing.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

UNCANNY EATING

UNCANNY EATING:
A little while ago, fellow classmate Keren Katz and I started an illustration blog called Uncanny Eating about strange food stories and images. We’ve been adding a bunch to it. Take a look!

It seems centaurs have a very interesting society. They’re lax and pretty chill, have a party culture, but clearly have a hierarchy. There are rules, but they don’t really worry about breaking them. Also they have invented trains (express no less!), when did they have time to do that?
I’m not sure it’s getting across here, but the King of the Centaurs is so awesome, that his tail is also a mustache. Surely he is the answer to Henry’s problem.
ROAD TRIP!
-Miriam
I just realized an alternate title for this week’s strip could be The Elder Scroll….but that might be too much.

Some Mass Effect sketches I drew while trying out Paper for the iPad. The app is pretty cool, and is more of a note taking/sketching tool, so the color palette is pretty limited, but the various brushes are very nice.
The Dude is playing through Mass Effect 2 again. I’m one of those people who has a huge problem remembering names, so I give most characters nick names. We constantly refer to Miranda as ‘The Panda’ because her suit is kind of panda-y. Garrus is just Garrus.

everyonesacentaur:

When you think about it, in the end, Horace’s logic was far more sound than Henry’s. Horse-1, Human-0.
In some parallel universe, this comic is an animated, and the reconnect scene is much like Voltron being assembled. There is a sword for some reason.
I would like to take this moment and mention AJ, who writes the dialogue and does the initial paneling placement for the strip. This comic is definitely a group effort, and, as he is far less into the social media than I, doesn’t really get mentioned that often. By the Centaur Gods, he is a funny dude.

While I’m at it, I also decided to convert my other 20-page comic, Transit, into HD and make it available to download for free. I’m also working on ordering long-overdue business cards, and creating a short comic for MoCCAA soon. Feel free to enjoy my back catalog in the meantime.

Katniss fan art drawn in sketchgroup with some color thrown in. And hey, she can shoot magical arrows because who wants to draw a bow?
This is also colored with palette #2 from super fun palette challenge. I cheated and used straight up blue for the mocking jay, so I guess I fail the palette challenge. Oh well.

I had to make a Dr Sketchy’s poster this week so I used the opportunity to incorporate Super Fun Palette Challenge (which is probably just myself, but people are welcome to try it out as well and practice color!) into the header. Mermaids!

Super color surprise! Everyone’s a Centaur will be color...:

Super color surprise! Everyone’s a Centaur will be color from now on! It will still be published black and white, as nature intended, in The Coast. But I just can’t resist making people’s eyeballs scream.
Strip 1 & 2 are color-fied as well!

Henry is right to be angry, centaur bodies ARE righteous.

So I’ve been away for a while. Reenergizing, recreating, and just plain sleeping. But I haven’t disappeared, really! MoCCA is next month, and I should have a new short comic ready for MoCCA soon. And in celebration of the new HD iPad, enjoy my last comic, Freedman, in glorious HD resolution for the iPad, absolutely for free.

ALL THE POISONOUS

ALL THE POISONOUS:
A friend of ours (hey, K!) was going to Australia for school. Alexander and I were talking about all the poisonous animals one could find there. That got me thinking about making some sort of poisonous animal chart.
This will be truly useful in Australia.
Edit: thank you Tom Motley for pointing out the overlooked fellow on the bottom left. He now has a name.
